Purpose of Role

To provide innovative, disruptive/unconventional solutions that help mitigate the critical issues facing the veterinary profession or lessen the impact of issues on the horizon. 

Ideal Background & Experience

• Expertise:

• Licensed veterinarian, nurse/technician, or academic/researcher in veterinary medicine.
• Experience in clinical practice, veterinary education, research, or industry-related roles.

• Innovation & Leadership:

• Track record of implementing new technologies or care models in veterinary practice.
• Experience with R&D, practice management innovation, or adoption of digital health tools (telemedicine, AI, diagnostic technology, etc.).

• Professional Influence:

• Prior involvement in professional associations, advisory boards, or councils.
• Ability to advocate for the veterinary profession

• Committed to Veterinary Advancement:

• Commitment to advancing the profession, improving sustainability of practice, and contributing to positive impacts to the profession’s issues.

Skills & Competencies

• Clinical Insight: Ability to identify real-world challenges faced by practitioners, patients, and clients.
• Strategic Thinking: Capacity to assess emerging trends and evaluate their impact on veterinary medicine.
• Collaboration: Works well across sectors (academia, practice, research, corporate partners).
• Communication: Strong skills in presenting, engaging in spirited conversations, and comfortable taking an opposing stance.
• Innovative Mindset: Open to testing new, disruptive/unconventional approaches and solutions that help shape the future of the profession

Commitment

• Strictly volunteer role
• Attend quarterly meetings. Up to 2 hours virtual meetings or 2- 8 hours in-person meetings. In-person meetings scheduled around main industry events.
• Participation in working groups or task forces
• Contribute programmatic expertise for Veterinary Innovation Summit
• Engage in professional outreach through events, publications, or mentorship.
